Boiler Lining Refurbishment Project

ARM was selected to support a major refractory lining refurbishment project for an industrial boiler system. The objective was to extend the operational life of the boiler, reduce heat loss, and improve insulation performance under demanding thermal conditions.

Our involvement focused on supplying fit-for-purpose refractory products and coordinating closely with the client’s technical team to ensure compatibility, timely delivery, and material performance throughout the installation process.

About Project

The project involved the refractory refurbishment of a high-capacity boiler unit operating under aggressive thermal and pressure cycles. ARM was tasked with supplying durable, high-performance refractory materials suited for the boiler’s combustion zone and surrounding insulation layers. The objective was to improve thermal containment, enhance lining longevity, and support consistent boiler output across various load conditions.

Our team worked in close coordination with the plant’s maintenance engineers and installation crew, providing product recommendations, delivery scheduling, and follow-up support to align with the plant’s shutdown timeframe.

Our Client’s Challenge

The client reported frequent wear in the burner throat and sidewall areas, leading to unplanned shutdowns and increased heat loss. The existing lining system had shown signs of early erosion, cracking, and inconsistent performance due to past use of mismatched or low-spec refractory materials.

Our Approach And Solution

ARM proposed a tailored product package built around durable castables and insulating materials known for their resistance to thermal cycling and slag adherence. The solution aimed to reduce the need for patchwork repairs, improve structural stability, and ensure a more consistent thermal profile inside the boiler chamber.

All materials were selected to match the client’s operating conditions, including temperature range, fuel type, and maintenance cycle. Throughout the process, our technical support team remained on hand to advise on anchoring, mixing, and curing best practices for optimum results.

Conclusion

The project successfully restored boiler reliability, improving both insulation efficiency and lining durability. With high-performance refractory materials in place, the plant reported smoother restarts, improved fuel efficiency, and fewer maintenance interventions. ARM’s ability to supply fit-for-purpose products and provide reliable technical collaboration helped ensure a smooth turnaround and long-term operational gains.
